Originating from the Bhakti (devotional) yoga tradition of India, Kirtan is the practice of chanting ancient mantras in community. By repeating these sacred sounds, we bypass the analytical, worrying mind and drop directly into the expansive space of the heart chakra. It is a joyful, liberating practice that requires no musical talent—only a willingness to participate in the collective frequency.
Gently bypasses the intellect through the repetition of sound.
Rapidly regulates the vagus nerve through extended vocal exhalations.
Fosters immense community coherence and connection.
Opens the heart chakra safely and joyfully.
Clears energetic blockages in the throat, reclaiming authentic expression.
Transforms the energy of the room into a unified, living prayer.

Participants sit in a casual, comfortable circle. The facilitator leads the chant (the call) playing an instrument like the harmonium, guitar, or drum, and the group sings it back (the response). The chants often start slow and meditative, gradually building in tempo and joyous intensity, before culminating in profound, resonant silence.
